In order to cover a balanced story on the COP15 negotiations, from a youth and student perspective, and to amplify existing climate campaigns, we have partnered up with several other networks and civil society organisations. We are happy to announce them below:
G-1 Billion is a youth press agency working to catch the conversation of the COP conference. Our 20+ young journalists from 15 countries work in 8 languages to report the stories of solutions beyond the negotiations themselves. We produce diverse blog coverage within and outside the summit, profiling the people and organisations taking action for a safe climate future. Our aim is provide alternative coverage to the mainstream press, with it’s narrow treaty focus, and provide a snapshot of what’s really happening at the most important meeting of the decade. Project Survival Media (PSM) is a collaborative global network of journalists using video, photography, and blogs to report from the front lines of the climate crisis.
In the lead up to the landmark UN Climate conference taking place in Copenhagen in December of 2009, Project Survival Media will help assemble and launch seven global new media teams. The purposes of these teams: to report on the most compelling climate stories from around the world, to amplify voices underrepresented by traditional media, and to breathe life into the facts and statistics of this modern crisis.
These seven media teams, one for each continent, will broadcast the most critical message of our time: that as world leaders negotiate a new climate treaty, “Survival is Not Negotiable.” As a part of the International Youth Delegation (IYD), we will use new media tactics and tools to support policies that “safeguard the survival of all countries and peoples.” This message will be driven home by spotlighting roles in society that disproportionately feel the impacts of climate change: mothers, farmers, health care providers, factory workers, and organizers. Global Humanitarian Forum/ Youth Forum
The GHF’s Youth Forum is a platform which brings together young adults from around the world to help solve humanitarian issues in creative ways. It provides opportunities for challenging and influential dialogue as well as scaling up of concrete ideas. With unique access to the Global Humanitarian Forum’s high-level audience, it allows young people to engage with some of the most important decision makers in the world. The Youth Forum, as does the Global Humanitarian Forum, currently focuses on the human impact of climate change. It encourages young adults to see climate change as an opportunity to develop innovative ideas. Entitled Young Adults 4 New Results, Youth Forum 2009 – the Youth Forum’s annual conference held this past June in Geneva, Switzerland – marked a starting point in developing new initiatives on youth action with regard to climate change. For information on Youth Forum 2010, to be held again in June in Geneva, please visit www.ghf-ge.org
Using its team “Noize from the Future” and its unique access to high-level participants at the Copenhagen climate negotiations, the GHF’s Youth Forum will provide coverage of the negotiations from the perspective of young people and future generations.
